:: About Us ::

We are a group of sighthound lovers and volunteers devoted to rescue in the sighthound breeds, particularly Italian Greyhounds, Greyhounds, Whippets, and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

Summit City Sighthounds is NOT a rescue group, but a support network of adopters and other volunteers who help the local breed rescue representatives who live within the Summit City area (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and the surrounding areas in Northern Indiana.  Our common bond is our love for the dogs, and many of us have more than one of these breeds of our own.

The parent rescue groups for our rescue breeds are:

Italian Greyhound Club of America (IGCA) Rescue, represented in northern Indiana by Kim Bunger.

Whippet Rescue and Placement (WRAP), represented in central Indiana by Ruth Beall.

All-Star Greyhounds, represented in northern Indiana by Michele Scott

Rhodesian Ridgebacks of the U.S. (RRUS), represented in Indiana by Jody Young

One of the biggest functions we try to accomplish is to educate the public about the breeds we know and love, so that the adopted rescues have a better chance at being understood, loved and cared for in permanent homes.  We work to make the best possible match between available rescues and the potential adoptive family.  If you are looking to adopt one of the breeds we work with, please research thoroughly the information available on the web about the breed.  Each of our breed pages has links to information about national rescue groups with which they are affiliated, as well as information about the breeds.  Some of the links we have available on our Related Links page may also help.

Taking care of all the fosters we get in wouldn't be possible without assistance from some very kind and trusted veterinarians who know the special needs and challenges of Sighthounds. "Thank you" just doesn't seem adequate enough, but we mean it from our hearts... to our veterinary friends and their staff members:
